How can I obtain Canadian citizenship?

To become a citizen, you will first need to become a Permanent Resident.

Generally, if you have a university degree, professional work experience, and advanced language skills, there might be a pathway for you and your family to obtain permanent residency.

Once you are a permanent resident, you will need to meet the following requirements in order to gain Canadian citizenship:

Living in Canada for 3 out of the last 5 years as a Permanent Resident. If you were here in Canada for 2 years as a tourist, student or worker, this counts as 1 year towards this requirement.

You will need to prove you paid Canadian taxes for the years you were in Canada.

In addition, you will likely be required to take a language exam and a citizenship test.
